Hi All,


My question to all members of IPI is should we offer a
choice of English/Vernacular as the language of instruction
at school level all over India?

Here are some simple facts of reality.

* English is *the* language of University Education in India.
With the advent of Information Technology and Internet I am
sure that no one will say we should change University Education
to any other language than English.

* English is the language of Business communication in India.

* English is the language of Administration and Inter State
communication in India.

* Language of judiciary is also predominantly English.

* Every one who can afford it and have access to English medium
schools are sending their children to English medium schools.

In this situation is there any point in Govt. running the
schools in vernacular medium? I am not suggesting that
Govt. should impose English as the medium of education,
but Govt. should leave it to parents of children in
each village, wards of town/cities to decide what language
of instruction their children should study.

I would request all members of IPI to respond to this
question. If you have a choice of Vernacular medium
school (mother tongue) or English medium school
which will you choose for your children?

Let me indicate my choice I am sending my children to
a English medium school for obvious reasons.
