Should India host an Olympics?

This is my first visit to this site and my very first posting to this
discussion group.
Let me tell you that I was very excited and happy
       a.  that such a website exists and
       b.  with the level and intensity of the discusions held here.

Having recently watched the Olympics and read <a
href="http://www.wsws.org/articles/2000/sep2000/olym-s29.shtml";>this
article</a>, I would like to start a discussion on the pros and cons of
India hosting the Olympics.

Questions that come to mind are:
1. Do we have the infrastructure? If not, can we build it? If so, in how
many years?
2. Does it give us a chance to prove ourselves? Do we need to? If so, in
what capacity?
3. Will it help local or international companies? Will it help in
generating revenue or do we just break even (fiancially)?
4. Will it help the "common" man?
5. Are they any "hidden" disadvantages?
