After reading some particularly rabid reactions to my comments on the
original posting by Ramnarayanan under "Shocking" I had also been
'turned
off' as was Dr. Subroto Roy and I was reconsidering whether I should be
part
of such a dirty debate that it had been reduced to.

But his timely and very logical comments on 'civility and the
discourse...'
in debate have encouraged me to debate again. Thanks to Dr Roy. I hope
all
debaters take note of his excellent views. When a debater makes
presumptions
about any and every other debater opposing his/her own point of view as
being surely a member/sympathiser of a politico-religious organisation
which
he/she happens to hate, it smacks of ulterior motives, especially if the
way
of dressing and the odd size of the dress of members of that
organisation
take centre stage. Such language suits a street fight more than a debate

between sincere people trying to solve any issue at hand.

In addition to civility, every debater can take care that the debate is
not
carried away into newer, unrelated areas and finally confused and
abandoned.
Also I would suggest that each debater can try to give suggestions to
solve
the issue at hand in the general good of Society and within the preamble
of
the Indian Constitution which we all respect, I suppose.

Under this subject line I would not go into the nitty-gritty of the
conversion tangle which I may go into when enough views have been
expressed
which are not personally directed but issue based.

I wish all debaters a Happy Diwali and a progressive new year !
